A case of the cytological follow up study of the hormonal effect on the artif icial vaginal epithelium (autograft) two years after the reconstruction by McIndoe operation is presented. The hormonal effect on cytological pattern is affected by various factors, e.g. .systemic (estrogen,. progestogens, androgen,endogenous or exogenous) and local (infection, irritation etc.) and is not easy to evaluate.
The Karyopiknotic Index(KPI), which is most often used for the evaluation of hormonal effect on the normal vaginal mucosa, was applied in this case, though admitting that the exfoliation of anucleated squames from the artificial vagina which occurs even years after plastic surgery renders difficulty in the assessment of KPI. If this anucleated squames are discounted, the Karyopiknotic Index of this case falls within the normal range of the cyclic vaginal epithelial change as shown by Pundel4l.
